Glossary

Short definitions for terms used across FESIT. Also see How FES scores work.

Capability domain
A category of work such as mailing, analytics or cloud storage. Domains determine which scoring criteria apply.
DPIA
A structured privacy risk assessment required in some high-risk processing situations under GDPR. FESIT scores are not a DPIA.
Easy
Whether people can use and operate the tool without a dedicated IT department, and how well it connects to the rest of the stack.
Fair
Lock-in risk, open standards, and European control over where data and decisions live.
FES
The three scoring pillars: Fair, Easy and Secure.
Illustrative vs Reviewed
Curations labels on catalog scores: how far a dossier has been curated, not a formal certification for your organisation.
Lock-in
How hard it is to leave a vendor or export your data and workflows.
Offering
A concrete way to run a tool (for example self-hosted open source vs EU SaaS vs global cloud), each with its own scores.
SaaS
Software hosted by a vendor and used over the internet, rather than installed only on your own servers.
Secure
Security defaults, safer user behaviour, and a clear personal-data story (including GDPR and exposure under laws such as the US Cloud Act).
Sovereignty
How much control a European organisation keeps over hosting, jurisdiction and critical dependencies.
Stack
Your organisation’s set of tools for today (Current) or the intended set (Target).
